3 FHS Wrestlers were admitted into the prestigious Doc B tournament in Clovis this last weekend. Angelo Reyes, Ryan Lee, and Taniela Feliciano Takafua all participated in the tournament, which is one of the toughest in the country. Angelo Reyes faired the best of the trio finishing Top 16 a couple rounds out of the medals losing an extremely close 4-3 match to Jaden Le of Rancho Bernardo to end his run.
The Doc B equivalent for the FHS Girls Wrestlers is the Napa Valley Invitational and FHS sent 3 wrestlers to that tournament as well. Nicole Lee, Melissa Lee, and Kyanna Gonzalez all won matches in Napa. Melissa and Nicole both made it into the medals finishing 7th at their weight classes. This will be huge for CCS seeding.
The Bianchini tournament saw a partial Fremont team due to sickness and the Doc B. Place winners included Robert Reyno (6th), Sam Ibanez (6th), and Cohle Feliciano (5th).
Full Tournament Results:
In the 67 team field FHS Wrestling finished 11th in the tournament. In any tournament there is his and lows but overall it was a solid performance by the team and many lessons were learned.
Fremont finished with 3 place winners. Cohle Feliciano finished in 8th place at Heavyweight and made some significant improvements throughout the tournament. Ryan Lee had a solid two days finishing 5th at 126 lbs. This is the second time Ryan has beaten the wrestler who knocked him out of the championship side of the bracket in the 5th place match (he also did that at the Peninsula).
Fremont also had its first champion in recent memory as Angelo Reyes continues to be unbeaten and defeated Abel Pena of Watsonville in the finals.
