Principal's Message

Dear Colleagues and Community Members,

Referred to as the “crown jewel of the Fremont Union High School District,” Fremont High School is an impressive school that has an environment that is both academically challenging and culturally enriching. We are proud of the spirit of inclusiveness, and collaboration that abounds throughout the campus. Our students are especially generous in volunteering their time and have consistently earned the most community service medals within the Fremont Union High School District. FHS serves all students from those who graduate and attend some of the most competitive colleges and universities in the country as well as students who struggle academically. Our students are some of our biggest cheerleaders and have shared:

“FHS created a supportive, accepting, and high-goal oriented environment that inspired my growth as a person.”

Jazmin Perez, FHS Class of 2008, Harvard University Class of 2012

“At FHS I not only got a great education, but had support and leadership opportunities that prepared me for success at Stanford.”

Timothy Wong, FHS Class of 2007, Stanford University Class of 2011

“Due to the friendly and accepting attitude of teachers, staff, and students alike, I came out of my shell and learned to enjoy and cherish my time in high school. Fremont is like a home to me, and its education and diversity prepared me well to enter the culturally mixed and academically challenging community at UC Berkeley.”

Brittany van Schravendijk, FHS Class of 2009, UC Berkeley Class of 2013

“FHS was a huge factor in my success at Santa Clara University. It was because of the support of my teachers and coaches that I was able to accomplish my goals. I had a wonderful high school experience!”

Laura Ayala, FHS Class of 2005, Santa Clara University Class of 2009

Perhaps the best way to illustrate how students feel about Fremont is to report the results of a survey given in the spring of 2009 to all students at Fremont, Cupertino, Homestead, Lynbrook, and Monta Vista High Schools. The survey was intended to measure student satisfaction with their school’s academics, teachers’ expectations, guidance systems, opportunities for student involvement, and a student self-assessment.

Although there was a high degree of satisfaction towards each of the five high schools, we were particularly encouraged by the responses from the Fremont students. Of the 37 questions that measured student’s attitudes toward their school, teachers, the level of support and acceptance, and the degree of high expectations, Fremont ranked the highest in nearly 80% of the questions. Some of the responses are especially noteworthy:

  • 91% of FHS students strongly agree or agree that teachers expect me to be successful
  • 88% of FHS students strongly agree or agree that school is a welcoming place
  • 83% strongly agree or agree that they feel valued and respected by adults on this campus
  • 83% strongly agree or agree that teachers help me when I don’t understand something from class or homework
  • 80% strongly agree or agree that Fremont provides the help I need to learn about a variety of programs and/or colleges I might go to after high school

“The rich, diverse culture of Fremont provides the foundation for an excellent education, and a growth-promoting atmosphere.”

FHS Class of 2010 Student

“Fremont is a good school, offers great academic classes, and the overall environment is very welcoming and safe.”

FHS Class of 2013 Student

“Fremont High School is the high school of my dreams. It has exciting classes, caring teachers, such a diverse community, friendly students, and an amazing athletics program.”

FHS Class of 2012 Student

“The teachers are extremely understanding and push you to higher expectations.”

FHS Class of 2011 Student
