Social Studies Department

Currently, Fremont High School has a 3 year Social Studies Program. The department has been working on writing skills throughout the grade levels.  It is our intention to develop foundational skills in the 10th grade and continue to develop them as students matriculate through our program.   Fremont High School has an open AP enrollment system.  It is suggested that students who are willing to work with good effort and have strong study habits enter the Advanced Placement courses.  These AP classes offer the rigor of a college-level class.  At the end of these courses, students should take the AP test.  If they pass this test, they can receive college credit.

Geoff Beckstrom: Growing up in Sunnyvale and graduating from FHS in 1996 before returning in 2007 to teach Social Science has given Geoff a unique perspective on, and connection to, the Fremont community. He is passionately dedicated to empowering students by showing them how their voices have an impact in the world.

Moris Clark: Mr. “Mo” Clark has been at Fremont since 2007. He currently teaches World History and AP US Government. He also coaches water polo and swimming. He is committed to Fremont, and recently moved to Sunnyvale to ensure that his children attend Fremont High School.

Isaac English: Mr. English currently teaches U.S. History. He has been teaching at Fremont since 1999 in both the Social Science and Mathematics departments. He previously taught at Piedmont Hills High School and Leyva Junior High School, both in San Jose.

Stacey Horman: Ms. Horman has been teaching at Fremont High School since 2008. She currently teaches 11th-grade US History and 12th-grade Gov/AP Microeconomics. She is also adviser for the Interact Club and Mock Trial. Stacey enjoys running, travel, reading and cooking in her spare time.

Brian Irvine: Mr. Irvine has been teaching at Fremont since 2000. He teaches APUSH, Sheltered Government and Economics. In addition to that, he coordinates the SAT testing, led Fremont's WASC self-study, and is a reader for the AP US History essays. He is often leading AP review sessions for students on Wednesday nights.

Jay LIn: Konichiwa, Ni-hao, and Mabuhay! I’m Jay Lin from Guam, USA – I’m a University of San Francisco graduate – BA in Politics and MA in Education. World History, US History, and Badminton Coach. Teach both regular and English language learners. Hobbies are traveling, snowboarding, running, and singing karaoke! I love teaching and enjoy working with students. Go Fremont Firebirds!

Elise Nahum: Mrs. Nahum is the current department chair and has been teaching a variety of social studies classes at Fremont High School since 2004. She is also an AVID teacher for the Class of 2015. Elise is an alumni of Fremont High School and continued her studies at UC San Diego, San Francisco State University, and La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia.

Lauren Turner: Lauren Turner started teaching at FHS in 2009. Courses she teaches include: World History, AP U.S. History, and sheltered U.S. History. She is also an advisor for the Class of 2013. Ms. Turner is a graduate of UCLA (BA History); UC Santa Cruz (MA History); and Chapman University (teaching credential). In her spare time, she loves to read, garden, cook, and spend time with her family & friends (human & furry).

Daniel Young: Mr. Young teaches World History and AP US History. He coaches swimming and also advises several clubs that support student involvement in dance, local music and ultimate Frisbee.
