FREMONT PTSA SPONSORED ACTIVITIES

Membership

By joining the PTSA and paying the membership dues, you are supporting the many activities of the PTSA. In addition, a portion of your membership dues goes to the council, district, state and national levels of the PTA.  These various levels of PTA offer programs and resources that can be shared with our local organization, as well as promote many legislative programs that benefit our children and our schools.

The cost of joining is $10 per member.

SAT Test Preparation Workshops

Statistics confirm that students who take a prep course do better on the SATs than students who do not prepare. PTSA sponsors two SAT Prep classes each year, one in the fall and one in the spring.  We offer these classes at a much lower cost than many independent prep classes and they are held on campus after school.  For information on when to sign up, stop by the Career Center, located in the library.

Honorary Service Awards

PTSA honors those who give of themselves in service to children, and there are many wonderful examples of this giving spirit in our community. For each recipient of the Honorary Service Award, a donation is made in his or her name by PTSA to a scholarship fund.  These scholarships are awarded to eligible students and teachers throughout the state of California.

Hospitality

If you felt welcomed on campus on your first visit, it is probably due in part to our wonderful Hospitality volunteers.  PTSA Hospitality provides refreshments for back-to-school nights and staff appreciation brunches twice a year.  They also provide an elegant reception following the Baccalaureate service for our graduating seniors and their families.  If you are a Martha Stewart wanna-be, or just like to welcome people by feeding them, the Hospitality Committee would love to hear from you!

Reflections

The Reflections Program is a National PTA arts recognition and achievement program. It recognizes students for their contributions in six categories:

    * Literature

    * Music Composition

    * Photography

    * Visual Arts

    * Dance Choreography

    * Film/Video Production

At Fremont, any student in grades 9-12 is eligible to participate.

The theme for 2012-2013 is "The Magic of a Moment"

The deadline for entries is October 26, 2012

School, Staff and Student Activity Support

Throughout the school year, the PTSA works closely with the administration.  As needs arise, PTSA considers how its resources can best serve the school.  Examples of how PTSA provides support to Fremont High School have included financial donations to the library; volunteer support for residency verification; financial support for special club events; financial and volunteer support for school safety campaigns, to name a few.

Flex Force

The heart of Fremont PTSA’s volunteer efforts comes through the Flex Force.  Flex Force is a network of volunteers who may be available to fill temporary volunteer needs throughout the year.  Any parent can sign up to be part of the Flex Force.  Administration and staff can request Flex Force volunteers anytime throughout the year for defined, short –term help.  The program is handled completely through e-mail.  When a staff member requests help, our volunteer coordinator will send an e-mail out to the Flex Force. If you are available and want to help, you simply respond to the e-mail and get ready to do your part.  If you are unavailable for a particular task, just delete the e-mail, and wait for the next task.  This is a GUILT FREE volunteer opportunity.
